2008? Finally!
// January 10th, 2008 // Blog & Tech Items
For whatever reason, I’ve been waiting for 2008 for a number of years now. 2007, although it had some great times, and was really my first full year of blogging, on the whole I’m ecstatic that it is finally over.
So what does 2008 hold for this blog? Well, to be honest, I have no flipping idea.
By now, some of you will have noticed that a couple Wordless Wednesdays have passed by without mention, and even a couple Fortune Cookie Fridays have passed by as well… Will these staples of LE be continued in the future? Well, WW will likely fade away and be replaced by random posts of similarly amazing photographs, but not necessarily on Wednesdays and not necessarily without words. They will likely be wordless, but if there is a story to go with the image from the photographer I would like the freedom to include that as well. I also got looking at the blog as a whole and realize that about 90% of my posts have images good enough to be included in WW so really, I’m already doing it.
As for Fortune Cookie Fridays, I think it’s a great idea on a few levels, yet I don’t want to be tied to a weekly installment. I will admit that the last couple have been quite sad simply because the fortunes were weak, and when they’re weak they are quite uninspiring.. sorry.
What we will be seeing more of for sure are some of the brilliant videos from TED.com. I’ve got a couple lined up and will be adding my brain into the mix to continue the conversation.
Ok, so what else are we doing…. OH, I’ve been tossing around the idea of possible guest bloggers to LE. I’m not entirely sure how to go about structuring it or how to accomplish it, but the general idea is open this blog up to other ‘thinkers’ (for a lack of better word) who feel that their post would fit nicely here, opposed to their own blog or any other they frequent. The reality is that this blog has always been open to guest writers – I’ve just never mentioned it before. I’m open to ideas on how to roll this out, and I’m open to anyone who happens to have a post ready to go. In a couple weeks I’ll do an “official” post about guest writers, but that doesn’t mean something can’t happen in the mean time. Drop me a note if you’re ever interested.
Will the look of LE always be changing? Yes. Kaizen, good or bad, is in full effect here at LE – continual improvement. For those who actually come visit the blog, you have no doubt noticed some changes to the look of it. They’re not massive changes – the sidebar is still on the right, text on the left, pictures, text, and the English language is still being used – just “look” changes. We now have a nice background beyond the content, the header graphic has changed again, and I think it looks a bit cleaner. We’ve come along way since Brian’s original template, and I’m not sure where exactly we’re going to end up. There are still a few more changes to be made – things like fonts, the shadow issue on the right, somehow reduce the file size of the graphics, and I think I might make the whole thing a bit wider… Oh and with 360 XHTML validation errors, we might be a bit far from finished yet..
Really, I think it’s time to have a bit more fun on this blog. Yes, we’re still going to take on issues, argue over points of view, and come away with a multi-sided understanding of something we previously only had one view on – that still may be your view and that’s ok; you simply now have more that you can’t easily ignore/completely discredit – because that is what this blog is about. We’re also going to be looking at other bloggers, their posts, videos, images, and whatever else seems to trigger a post. Add in some brilliant guest bloggers (that would be YOU) and I think we can have a bit of fun.
Although there are times where I become focused on various aspects of this blog and don’t make a point of mentioning it – this blog is always open to comments, suggestions, and complete differences of opinion. I’ve got a contact form setup to email me through if you don’t wish to leave a comment, and I do appreciate input received from anyone.
All the best,
Tully.

Just a friendly comment to commend you on such a radically cool rendition of the theme – you should be proud! Best of luck in 2008!
Hey thanks Brian! I’ve learned quite a bit about CSS thanks to your theme. Let’s not forget, it’s still your code under all this.
Good luck with the new venture!!
