New meme? (likely not)

// February 25th, 2007 // 12 Comments » // Dreams & Goals, Logical Emotions, Meme Posts

Ok, so this is just a fun post that I had the inspiration for while watching THE BEST automotive show, on the planet, bar none – Top Gear!

I had been thinking about goal setting, life accomplishments, and the like, when it hit me – what are the goals that are slightly ‘out there’ that typically don’t make it on the goal list because you never took them seriously (but would still be a blast to do!)?

So, without further wait, I give you:

Top 5 Goals I Never Seriously Considered

  1. Spend a season as a co-host on Top Gear! (or at least log a time for Canada on the ‘Reasonably Priced Car‘ time board)
  2. Rappell down the face of the Hoover Dam. I’ve got the first 300′ of rope… can someone lend me the rest?
  3. Dive to the bottom of the Marianas Trench.
  4. Fly an F-14 (aircraft carrier included)/wreak havoc in an AH-64 Apache.
  5. DJ for tens of thousands.

So, there they are. Not typically the ones found on the dream board, or the goals list, but you know, it would be a blast to do just one of them! Who knows, anyting is possible… ;)

Oh, and I guess for this to be a true meme, I think I shall tag, Mr. Middle Zone Musings himself, Robert Hruzek (we’ve been talking about memes quite a bit lately, so it makes sense doesn’t it?).

Five Reasons Why I Blog

// February 8th, 2007 // 11 Comments » // Blog & Tech Items, Brain Dump, Meme Posts

Tagged..Yup, you guessed it – I’ve been TAGGED! Ok, so I went on a bit of a diatribe about Squidoo over at Middle Zone Musings and it would seem that I’m being punished. Well, more of a slap on the wrist really…

I always wondered how these things got started, or how you ended up getting ‘tagged’ and it would seem that a diatribe that is both direct AND clever gets you in. So, without further babbling on the front end, I give you the FIVE REASONS WHY I BLOG (in no particular order… I think…):

  1. Because I Can! When you get right down to it though, it’s completely true. I have by very own ‘vanity domain’, I’m able to afford hosting, I have the ability to create a website, I can install WordPress (and also upgrade it), I can hack both a CSS and a PHP file, I have skills in graphic design, I can organize content, I can write, I can educate, and I can shamelessly promote myself. On a pure level, I have the ability TO actually blog, and I have the RIGHT to blog.
  2. Exploration of Space. No, not NASA-type space, but exploration of a space that I create. A space where I initially define the boundary and the grid lines, and begin to explore. The more I discover and interact with whatever (or whomever) I find, the boundaries begin to change, which in turn allows for new discoveries and new boundaries to be set. I get to set them initially with a focus and direction of the blog, yet the interactions which follow simply grow the space, add more grid lines, and allow new exploration of space. But hey, if NASA wants to hook me up with a flight or two to help out explore their space – I’m in! (I’d even settle for a dive in the big tank and I’ll bring my own gear!) They’re not reading this are they? Well, I tried..
  3. To Download. I really didn’t realize the usefulness of being able to download stuff from the brain, store it on the blog, and really, not have to carry it around with me in a jumbled thought anymore. I’m one of those people who’s brain is ALWAYS working on something. Thinking, understanding, figuring out, talking, comparing, theorizing, etc.etc.etc.. I believe that for people like myself, blogging is a fantastic tool to store some of the good stuff that is taking up space. Consider it like a USB drive for the brain. By blogging on a regular basis, it allows me to ‘store’ some thoughts in a clear and logical order, which in turn frees up cycle time for something else because I don’t have to try and understand it anymore. And hey, if someone else reads it and enjoys it, then we all win.
  4. To Exist. I write in the exact way in which I think and speak. Sentence length, pauses, EMPHASIS, long pauses…. are exactly how I speak and think when in my natural state. My current work ‘situation’ doesn’t allow a lot of ME to come out, relax, and shoot the breeze as much as I would like – which really means that my wife Colleen gets the best of me nearly all the time! When blogging I get to be who I am on a core level. I get to exist in a space that I get to create, write how I want, and explore, comment, and post about what I want (ok, except for this post thanks to Bob…).
  5. To Procreate. That one got your attention, didn’t it? When we look at ‘procreate’ (which means to reproduce: to have offspring or young), are we not creating reproductions of our thoughts? When we begin a conversation via blog, are we not creating offspring in terms of new posts? Do not posts start out very young but grow and evolve into mega-posts with some careful nurturing and input from others? We, as individuals, get to procreate via our blogs, and the community comes together and helps raise the young’n. Insert some metaphors on responsibility, nutrition, education, and bowel movements, and it all works people! Perhaps a simplistic view of the whole blogging community, but I just couldn’t bring myself to post that I blog for the community. ;)

Ok, so there are the 5 reasons I blog… currently… today… might change tomorrow… we’ll see how the comments on the procreation one go…

Oh hey! Now I get to tag some other sucker, I mean worthy blogger! ;) That’s right people, if I had to do it, you have to do it! <insert evil laugh here>
