I discovered the other day that the server my site was hosted on was running an old version of PHP, which in turn was messing up a couple things. When I inquired as to whether my server could be upgraded, I was told ‘no’, however they could just move me to another server running the latest version.

Well hey now, that my friends is customer service! And everything went smoothly, right? PAH! I wish. Sadly no. As of yesterday I could FTP to one version of the blog, HTTP into another, Bob got one version, Chris would see another, Valeria’s comments were split between both, and I was confused as hell.

It would seem that a quick phone call to the tech support folks got everything straightened around and it was then just a matter of propagation (which also nicely wiped some emails off the server). *shrug*

If anyone notices anything sketchy going on (besides my writing ability), please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Many people, in heeding the guidance of their souls, find themselves contemplating goals that seem outrageous or unattainable. In the mind’s eye, these individuals stand at the edge of a precipice and look out over the abyss at the fruit of their ambition. Some resist the urge to jump, paralyzed by the gap between their current circumstances and the life of their dreams. Others make a leap of faith into the unknown, unsure of what they will encounter but certain that they will gain more in their attempts than they would bowing to self-protective instincts. This leap can be exceedingly difficult for individuals with control issues because the act of embracing uncertainty requires them to trust that surrender will net them the rewards they seek. Yet when you make a leap of faith, believing without a doubt that you will land safely on the other side, you can accomplish almost anything you set out to do.

Special to The Globe and Mail

CANCUN, MEXICO — Cool water works its way into my wetsuit as my guide, Dave Tomlinson, gives the “thumbs down” signal and I descend into the gin-clear waters of Grand Cenote, an inland freshwater cave 130 kilometres south of Cancun, Mexico. Shafts of sunlight shimmer in the open pool. With Tomlinson leading, our group of divers follows single-file into the liquid-filled void. Ahead is only darkness. My eyes slowly adjust to the pale blue light, and the whole expanse of the cave comes into view.

According to Mike, the conditions were:

No wing inflation.

Almost no dilutant.

No O2 (it was maybe 10 bar left in a 2L)!

No bailout (I had staged it as I was decoing on O2).

Ok, so I consider this to be the first OFFICIAL post to the new blog… Sure, there have been some others, however, they have mostly been tests and general ramblings while I figure out what I’m going to actually do with this blog.

So far I’ve broken the blog into two catagories:
- Brain Dump
- The MINeD Field

The first will likely contain just that – brain dumps. Ocassionally I have a thought or two which I need to work out and this will be where items end up. So far I can see it mostly being my questions I ask while trying to analyze something… It happens a lot so this might be a big catagory…

The second catagory is for the book I am currently working on. As I work on sections and have things completed, I will be posting them under that catagory for two reasons: 1. to share with everyone and 2. to get feedback as people seem fit to respond. I feel the book itself (when completed) will be something worth sharing and should serve a great number of people to begin to understand and improve their own self image.

Ok, so that’s about it for now… I will likely add in another catagory or two as things develop (I’m thinking the first one to be added will likely be one for diving…), however, we’ll run with these for now.
